There's this great amount of gap between the academics and industry requirement in Indian IT education, which I've felt since the first day of my college life.

Too many reasons can be given for this, but the most important in my opinion is 'incompetence and unawareness' of employed IT lecturers in these colleges. They are, for the most of them, proud over their 30-year old technologies and paradigms. To add to the trouble, they strive really hard to keep the students in the same darkness! This is to the effect that not only the expertise, but the mentality and attitude of students towards learning new technologies is impaired and their enthusiasm and ability gets crippled.

And this holds true especially for teachers in IT domain, who are poor graduates who couldn't get a great job after graduation, so they were left with the only option of Post Graduation, followed by doctorate courses -- all this not driven by interest or will but by the lack of ability. If they were good engineers, they would be working in industry and would not have opted for teaching. Teaching, unfortunately, is the last resort -- and hence you see the residual garbage in these professions.

Industries, have worked around this problem by interviewing for aptitude of students, and later offering technical training for first 6 months or an year after hiring freshers. They don't rely on any part of academic knowledge the student might have gained, and start training afresh.

For those who can't afford to train, hiring skilled people is too difficult a task. I know the situation is bad, but nobody's working to fill the gap.

The Indian Media is one of the most immature, sycophantic, corrupt media in the world with no accountability or responsibility. With no checks or balances in place, it is only going to get worse.

Google did not just create a browser - it created a platform in the guise of a browser.BR/BR/Google Web Applications such as Google Docs are extremely JavaScript/Ajax intensive and current browser architecture is a hindrance for Google's competitor to Microsoft Office.BR/BR/Chrome deals with JavaScript radically differently compared to other browsers - actually, Google made a paradigm shift with respect to handling of JavaScript in its browser.BR/BR/Google's strategy to kill Microsoft is interesting and in contrast to previous attempts by different vendors.BR/BR/There were a lot of expectation from Linux to wrest some Home/Small Business desktop OS space from Windows - however, Linux fell under the weight of those expectations.BR/BR/Google realized there was no point competing with Windows - instead Google focussed on an OS platform for handhelds/phones - and pioneered creation of the Android. In another 10 years, most ecommerce will move from the desktop/laptop to your phone. Google seems to be smartly playing its cards.BR/BR/Another big Microsoft money-maker is the Office Suite. OpenOffice and StarOffice came out with free alternatives - and failed miserably!BR/BR/Google realized this as well and created Google Docs - a free online Office suite. To give a Desktop-like experience with Google Docs, it JavaScript/Ajax-enabled it heavily. But browsers let it down, so Google created its own browser. It already has a little less than 1% of the browser market-share and great growth prospects since most website/ web applications are slated to become JavaScript/Ajax enabled in the future.BR/BR/The future will tell whether Google's bets will pay off.
